Takata Airbag Recall

Over 34 million U.S. vehicles have been recalled due to defective Takata airbags, making it the largest vehicle-related recall in history. The airbags are known to suddenly and violently deploy, spraying shrapnel around the vehicle. Several hundred injuries have been reported, including some fatalities. The defect involves the inflator and propellant devices installed in the vehicles.

In some cases, the airbags are deployed without warning while others fail to deploy during an accident propelling pieces of metal and shrapnel into the victims  Takata knowingly mishandled and improperly stored the propellant chemicals, causing pressure to build and airbags to explode. There may be more factors that contribute to the defective part, including humidity seeping into the airbags. These airbags are placed throughout the vehicles of 10 different car manufacturers.
