Automaker giant Chrysler is recalling about 257,000 Dodge Ram pickups in the U.S. due to fears that its rear axle might seize up or its driveshaft might detach because of a loosened rear axle pinion nut, The Detroit News reported on December 19.
Since its investigation in June, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) learned about 15 incidents associated with the issue, seven of which occurred at speeds of 50 mph or greater. Meanwhile, two of the reports indicated that the problems have caused the affected vehicle to spin out of control.
The recalled vehicles were manufactured between January 2004 and August 2005. Chrysler said it will begin recalling the affected units on February 13.
